The most underrated comedy of all time.

Possibly the most underrated movie of all time, period, is The Cable Guy. I love, L-O-V-E, this movie. I did not understand when the critics panned it. I do not understand when people who've seen it say they didn't like it. I do not understand any time anyone says anything bad about this movie.

(Don't nobody better say nothing bad about Ms. Jenkins. Uh uh, that's a fine woman right there. Nobody better say nothing bad about her. Her hair's so nappy we lost three combs in there last week. But I ain't one to gossip so you ain't heard that from me.)

Whenever you get Jim Carrey starring, Matthew Broderick co-starring, Ben Stiller directing, and Jack Black in a supporting role, you simply cannot go wrong (and Judd Apatow, of Freaks and Geeks fame, produced it, by the way). It's a can't miss, and this...this wonderfully funny, beautifully dark, brilliantly ironic film, did not miss. It is spot on.

The lisp, the karaoke party, the basketball game, Medieval Times, porno password. Brilliant, all brilliant. If you did not like this movie, you are dumb.

Comments:
Based on your recommendation, I am literally about to walk about the door to Blockbuster to rent it tonight (Sunday March 20 2005). I remember not thinking it was too good, but I don't want to be considered dumb so I will rent it again and re-evaluate.

I realize the date was unnecessary above since Blogger should automatically stamp my entry. Oh well.

I'm interested to hear what you think of it. Let me know.

Ok, I'm officially dumb. Maybe I don't get it. I think I understand all of the social implications of TV raising kids, alienation, etc...

The comedy was a little too overt though, and Jim Carrey is at almost 100% Jim Carrey-ness, which is tough to take. Him singing karaoke was my least favorite scene of the movie. Plus, Matthew Broderick is a hard protagonist to "root for".

I understand that if comedy must be explained, than it's not too funny, but I seriously think I'm missing something that you're seeing...

Perhaps, as your post indicated, I just am dumb.

Hi! I was a non-stupid fan of your former website and then found this after checking in for the first time in a few years, and have wasted the last hour reading some of your archives. And I have to say I loved this movie too and also can't understand the deal with people not liking it. Because you seem to be on par with many things I think I've decided you are a great person.

Thanks,
Nisha(zoid)
